DUSHANBE, June 29, Asia-Plus -- Tajik military analyst Abdullo Habibov told Asia-Plus Wednesday afternoon that it is possible that visit of high-ranking Russian state officials to Tajikistan may relieve tension in Tajik-Russian relationships and draw the countries’ positions on many issues closer.
Sergey Naryshkin, Head of Russian President’s Office, and Anatoly Serdyukov, Russian Minister of Defense, arrived in Dushanbe on June 29 to discuss cooperation issues with Tajik officials.
Habibov, however, considers that the problem of Tajikistan is that “we do not have skilled negotiators, people who could convince the other side of correctness of our position and compromise in case of necessity, simultaneously protecting interests of our state.”
According to him, the sides will discuss mostly military issues and they will verify their positions on these issues. “The outcome of the negotiations should not be unexpected,” said Habibov, “Usually, the sides preliminary discus the existing issues and reach a consensus and such official delegations just arrive to put signatures and to voice agreements signed between the two countries.”
