DUSHANBE, July 16, 2012, Asia-Plus -- A group of members of the European Parliament (MEPs), led by Struan Stevenson, arrived in Dushanbe yesterday for a four-day visit, a well-informed source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus on Monday.

During their stay in Tajikistan, MEPs are scheduled to hold talks with President Emomali Rahmon and heads of a number of relevant ministries ad agencies as well as to visit the Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and the site for construction of the Roghun HPP.

Local experts consider that MEP Struan Stevenson plays an important role in building the positive image for Tajikistan in the European Union.  Mr. Stevenson has visited Tajikistan several times.  He is an author of a series of articles and statements declaring for construction of the Roghun HPP and its benefits to the whole Central Asian region.    

Struan Stevenson, 64, is a Scottish politician.  He is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Scotland and Vice Chair of the Committee on Fisheries, in addition to which, he is member of the Executive of the Scottish Conservative party.
