DUSHANBE, July 26, 2012, Asia-Plus -- On Wednesday July 25, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Dovletgeldy Sadikov, Minister of Finance of Turkmenistan also Co-chairman of Tajik-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, the president’s official website reports.
In the course of the talks, the two reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan as well as intensification of work of the joint commission for trade and economic cooperation.
A two-way trade between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan amounted to only 194 million U.S. dollars in 2011 and Tajik leader noted that there was considerable room for expansion of economic ties between the two countries.
The sides expressed confidence that the work of the joint commission for trade and economic cooperation and the forthcoming official visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to Turkmenistan would give a new impulse to further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial economic cooperation between the two countries, the source said.
President Rahmon’s official visit to Tajikistan is expected to result in signing of a number of cooperation documents.
During the meeting, the two also discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and a number o regional and international issues being of mutual interest, the source added.
