DUSHANBE, December 6, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- The CIS leaders have concluded their summit in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Eight of the eleven CIS presidents attended the Ashgabat summit that took place on December 5.  The Moldovan and Azerbaijani presidents sent their prime ministers to attend.  Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev was also absent because of what the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry described as Atambayev''s “busy work schedule.”  Kyrgyzstan was represented by foreign minister.

The summit considered some twenty issues.  The summit participants reportedly agreed on joint antiterrorism training efforts and on cooperation to counter illegal drug trafficking, terrorism, separatism, and organized crime.  The Ashgabat summit discussed the coordination of financial intelligence services among CIS member nations.

The summit ended with signing of a number of cooperation documents, including declaration on further expansion of comprehensive cooperation.  The CIS presidents also adopted a decision on the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 and signed agreements on cooperation on organization of an integrated currency market, training of officers for antiterrorist units and logistical support of the competent bodies.

Addressing the summit, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon drew attention of the CIS heads of state to the issues related to expansion of cooperation in sectors like trade, transportation and energy.  Tajik leader, in particular, noted that economic relations were the foundation for cooperation in other spheres.
