DUSHANBE, July 23, 2013, Asia-Plus -- Tajik Embassy in Moscow is indignant at the sentence passed on the drunken member of local council of the Semiluksky district, Voronezh oblast for murder of a Tajik national.
On January 28, 2012, the member of the local council of the Semiluksky district, Sergey Plekhanov, being in a state of drunkenness, beat a Tajik national to death.
The Semiluksky district court sentenced Plekhanov to eight-month restraint of liberty. The prosecutor’s office lodged protest against the sentence but the Voronezh regional court has upheld the Semiluksky court’s verdict. Moreover, Sergey Plekhanov still remains member of the Semiluksky legislature.
“The sentence does not correspond to the gravity of the crime, and therefore, the Tajik Embassy has applied to the Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office with solicitation to verify legality of the decisions made by the judicial instances of the Voronezh oblast,” Mohammad Egamzod, an official representative of the Tajik Embassy in Moscow noted.
