DUSHANBE, July 29, 2013, Asia-Plus – The Public Council at the Tajik Embassy in Moscow met on July 27 to review the results of work carried out over the first six months of this year, Mohammad Egamzod, an official representative of the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, said.
According to him, the meeting brought together members of the Public Council from all regions of the Russian Federation, where Tajik public associations officially function.
Inaugurating the meeting, Tajik Ambassador to Russia, Abdulmajid Dostiyev reportedly noted that over the report period, the Public Council and its affiliates in the regions have carried out serious work aimed at strengthening friendship between Tajik labor migrants and Russian citizens and providing legal advice to Tajik labor migrants arriving in Russia.
“At the same time, Dostiyev noted that the Council’s activities do not comply in full with its charter documents and the goals resulting from the situation emerging in the Russian Federation (growth in anti-migrant and sometimes openly anti-Tajik moods in Russia, slanderous attacks of some Russian media sources, low level of social and legal protection of fellow-countrymen in Russia and so forth),” Egamzod noted.
The upcoming presidential election in Tajikistan was also among major topics of the meeting and its participants reportedly pointed to the necessity of taking efforts to ensure holding of transparent and democratic elections and creating conditions so that Tajik nationals living and working in Russia could actively participate in this important political event, Egamzod said.
According to him, they also pointed to the necessity of intensifying the Council activity aimed at protection of rights and interests of fellow-countrymen living and working in the Russian Federation, improving coordination of activities of Tajik public associations and diasporas functioning in Russia, paying more attention to Tajik students studying at Russian universities and getting the Council members more actively involved in the process of forming the positive image of Tajik labor migrants in Russia, providing the smooth adaption of Tajik labor migration, and propagandizing achievements of the centuries-old Tajik culture among Russian nationals.
