DUSHANBE, March 27, 2014, Asia-Plus – Iran’s news agency IRNA reports that a trilateral meeting of Tajik, Afghan and Iranian presidents started in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Thursday on the sidelines of the International Navrouz Festival currently underway in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Emomali Rahmon (Tajikistan), Hamid Karzai (Afghanistan) and Hassan Rouhani (Iran) reportedly discussed a number of regional issues being of mutual interest.

According to IRNA, emphasizing necessity of reinforcing Persian language, the three presidents called for expansion of trilateral cooperation aimed at safeguarding stability in the region.

We will recall that delegations of 15 countries gathered in Afghanistan for the Fifth International Navrouz Festival.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon was the first to arrive in Kabul for the event hosted by President Hamid Karzai.

Tajik president arrived on March 26 and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain arrived in Kabul on March 27.  Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain has made his first visit to Afghanistan since taking office in September.

The leaders are also expected to discuss security, trade, and economic cooperation.
