DUSHANBE, May 27, 2014, Asia-Plus -- On Monday May 26, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Speaker of the National Assembly (Pakistan’s lower house of parliament).
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan.
A special attention was reportedly given to expansion of cooperation between the parliaments, the governments and business communities of the two countries.
It was noted that the parliaments must take implementation of bilateral agreements on cooperation in the fields of transportation, energy, trade and investments under their control.
Rahmon and Sadiq also discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.
Similar issues were discussed at a meeting of Mr. Sadiq with Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev.
“Pakistan parliament speaker invited Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev to visit Pakistan at any time, which is convenient for him,” Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
Born on October 17, 1954, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is the 19th and the current and Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan. A native of Lahore, Sadiq is a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).
