DUSHANBE, June 12, 2014, Asia-Plus – The Political Council of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) yesterday released a statement regarding recent attack on IRP leader Muhiddin Kabiri in Kulob.
The statement, in particular, notes that the attack was organized by circles that “are interested in destabilization of the situation in the country and violation of principles of National Unity.”
The IRP Political Council says in its statement that the authorities began to overtax their patience and strengthened pressure on the party and “by means of fear and slander they force people to leave the party.” The authorities are reportedly closing down the party offices under various pretexts.
The IRP Political Council notes that such a practice is fraught with serious consequences for the country’s security during the period of preparations for an important political event – parliamentary elections.
“The Government of Tajikistan must take urgent measures to stop provocative actions of separate officials and groups, thereby, to show that they fulfill their obligations on providing security and observing all freedoms of citizens and political parties irrespective of their religion, ethnic or regional belonging,” the statement said.
