DUSHANBE, June 20, 2014, Asia-Plus -- The European Union Delegation to Tajikistan issues the following statement in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Tajikistan:

“The EU Delegation is concerned about the disappearance of Mr Alexander Sodiqov, PhD student at the University of Toronto and researcher working for the University of Exeter, following his detention in Khorog on June 16, 2014 and the lack of information on his health and whereabouts provided to his family.

“The EU Delegation urges the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to provide the relatives of Mr Sodiqov with this information as a matter of priority and to clarify the circumstances around his detention and disappearance.”
