DUSHANBE September 8, 2014, Asia-Plus -- On Monday September 8, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received visiting Malaysian Foreign Minister bin Haji Aman.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the sides discussed issues related to state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Malaysia,

A special attention was reportedly given to implementation of agreements that were reached between the two countries during President Rahmon’s visit to Malaysia in June this year.

In the course of the talks, the sides pointed to the necessity of creating intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation and establishing direct ties between business circles of Tajikistan and Malaysia.

They also underlined the significance of signing of a government-to-government agreement on the avoidance of dual taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

Tourism and education were reportedly outlined as areas of which could drive the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Malaysia is a federal constitutional monarchy located in Southeast Asia. It is a federation of 13 states and three federal territories. Malaysia is a relatively open state-oriented and newly industrialized market economy. The state plays a significant but declining role in guiding economic activity through macroeconomic plans.  Malaysia has had one of the best economic records in Asia, with GDP growing an average 6.5 per cent annually from 1957 to 2005.  In 2014, the GDP (PPP) was about $555 billion, the third largest economy in ASEAN and the 29th largest in the world.
