DUSHANBE, September 30, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), who attended the inauguration of Dr. Ashraf Ghani as President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah as the country’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) yesterday held separate meetings with them in Kabul.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says Zuhurov’s talks with President Ashraf Ghani focused on issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

They, in particular, discussed expansion of bilateral cooperation between the countries in sectors like trade, investment, transportation, security, and implementation of regional projects.

Zuhurov reportedly conveyed Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s congratulations to Dr. Ashraf Ghani on the occasion of his election as President of Afghanistan.

President Ghani, for his part, invited President Rahmon to pay an official visit to Afghanistan at any convenient time for him, Sultonov said.

Tajik parliament speaker’s talks with Afghanistan’s CEO reportedly focused on economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Ashraf Ghani was inaugurated as Afghanistan''s new president and swore in Abdullah Abdullah as chief executive on September 29.

The two men took their oaths of office in Kabul on September 29 in Afghanistan''s first-ever democratic transfer of power.

Abdullah, as chief executive, will have a new role similar to a prime minister in a government structure far different to Karzai''s all-powerful presidency.
