DUSHANBE, October 9, 2014, Asia-Plus -- The Islamic Revival Party (IRP) board held an extraordinary meeting yesterday to discuss issues related to the Group 24 opposition movement’s calls on social network for a protest in downtown Dushanbe on October 10.
The IRP board released a statement, in which it calls on Tajik nationals not to participate in tomorrow’s gathering in Dushanbe.
In its statement, the IRP board also calls on initiators of the protest to abandon their intention to organize the demonstration.
“We also call on members and supports of our party not participate in that illegal demonstration. Participation in illegal demonstrations contradicts the party rules and may be reason for expulsion from the party,” statement says.
The statement further notes that Tajikistan had been on the edge of collapse. “The reason for that were lack of understanding and lack of respect of the sides for each other. Irresponsibility of the government bodies and some individuals and groups led [in the 1990s] to the civil war that left more than 150,000 dead,” the statement says.
