DUSHANBE, January 12, 2015, Asia-Plus -- The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Jamshed Murtazoqulov, the head of the Association of Young Lawyers of Tajikistan, to run for seat in Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament.
An official source at the PDP says Murtazoqulov will run for election to the parliament in the Vahdat single-mandate constituency.
Jamshed Murtazoqulov is Doctor of Sciences in Law. He is Professor of the Chair of Civil Law, the Faculty of law at Tajik National University. Murtazoqulov is the chairman of the Association of Young Lawyers of Tajikistan and the member of the Scientific-and-Consultative Council of the Higher Economic Court of Tajikistan.
Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli). Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation and 41 in single-seat constituencies. Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
