DUSHANBE, February 3, 2015, Asia-Plus -- 161 candidates are competing for 70 seats in the Dushanbe local council (Majlis), Ms. Sanavbar Rahimova, the chairperson of the Dushanbe electoral commission, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to her, all political parties officially registered in the country have nominated their candidates to run for election to the Dushanbe legislature.

“An official registration of candidates will be completed on February 8,” Ms. Rahimova said, noting that Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev has been nominated to run for election to the Dushanbe local council in constituency # 25 of Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district
