DUSHANBE, February 5, 2015, Asia-Plus -- The first group of the CIS election observers, led by the CIS Executive Committee deputy head Vladimir Garkun, will arrive in Dushanbe on February 2, Abdumannon Dodozoda, the head of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER)’s office, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the main group of the CIS election observers, led by the CIS Executive Committee head Sergey Lebedev, will arrive in Tajikistan in late February.

“To-date, 30 representatives of the OSCE''s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), 5 representative of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and three representatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have been officially registered with the CCER as international observers,” Dodozoda told Asia-Plus Thrusday afternoon.

In all, more than 500 representatives of regional, international organizations and separate countries will monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in Tajikistan as international observers.

The 2015 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan will take place on March 1, 2015.

Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli).  Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies.  Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
