DUSHANBE, November 2, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon is expected to pay a state visit to Pakistan from November 12-13.

An official source in the Tajik government says that while in Islamabad, Emomali Rahmon will hold talks with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and speakers of both chambers of the Pakistani parliament.

A number of cooperation documents are expected to be signed during President Rahmon’s visit to Pakistan.

Mamnoon Hussain, Pakistani textile businessman, nationalist conservative and politician, has served as the President of Pakistan since September 9, 2013.

The President of Pakistan is the ceremonial head of state of Pakistan and a figurehead who represents the “unity of the Republic.”  The President holds the legal title de jure and is a civilian commander-in-chief of the Pakistan Armed Forces as per the constitution of Pakistan.

This position places its holder in leadership of the nation is kept informed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan on all matters of internal and foreign policy as well as on all legislative proposals. Constitution of Pakistan vest the President the powers of the granting pardons, reprieves, and the control of the military; however, all appointments at higher commands of the military must be made by President on a “required and necessary” on consultation and approval from the Prime Minister.  In addition, the constitution prohibits the President from exercising the authority of running the government.

The president is indirectly elected by the Parliament through the Electoral College for a five-year term.

The Parliament of Pakistan, officially termed the Majlis-e-Shoora, is the federal and supreme legislative body of Pakistan. It is a bicameral federal legislature that consists of the Senate as upper house and the National Assembly, as lower houses.  The Chairman of the Senate is Raza Rabbani and the Speaker of the National Assembly is Murtaza Javed Ababsi.
