DUSHANBE, May 17, 2016, Asia-Plus -- More than 120 international observers have been registered with the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) of Tajikistan for the upcoming constitutional referendum in the country so far.

“In accordance with norms of the constitutional law on referendum, Tajik central electoral commission has issued a resolution on accreditation of international observers from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the CIS Parliamentary Assembly, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and diplomatic missions active in the country for the constitutional referendum,” an official source at the CCER, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“To-date, the CCER has registered more than 120 international observers,” the source told Asia-Plus Wednesday afternoon.

In all, 122 international observers from the CIS (74), CIS Parliamentary Assembly (33), SCO (7), and diplomatic missions active in Tajikistan (8) have been accredited for the constitutional referendum, according to the source.

We will recall that Tajikistan is set to hold a referendum on constitutional amendments that would allow incumbent President Emomali Rahmon to run for office for an indefinite number of times.  The referendum is scheduled for May 22, 2016.
