DUSHANBE, July 14, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan has established diplomatic relations with Ecuador.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, a ceremony of signing of a joint statement on establishment of diplomatic relations took place in New York on July 12.

The document was reportedly inked by Mr. Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov, Tajikistan’s Permanent Representatives to the United Nations, and Mr. Horacio Sevilla Borja, Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations.   

Ecuador, officially the Republic of Ecuador, is a representative democratic republic in northwestern South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Ecuador also includes the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific, about 1,000 kilometers west of the mainland.

Ecuador has a developing economy that is highly dependent on commodities, namely petroleum and agricultural products.  The country is classified as a medium-income country.  Ecuador''s economy is the eighth largest in Latin America.
