Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Komilov, who arrived in Dushanbe on a working visit, according to Tajik president’s official website.

They discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Rahmon and Komilov reportedly noted with satisfaction that relations between the two countries have shown an upward trend and a two-way trade with the two countries has been increasing.

While discussing regional and international issues, they pointed to the necessity of providing regional security as the main condition of social and political stability in Central Asia.

Rahmon noted that Tajikistan attached significance to its relations with Uzbekistan in its foreign policy.

They outlined water-and-energy and transportation spheres as well as issues of mutual travels of citizens of the two countries as directions requiring an active and constructive interaction, the website said.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan over the first eight months of this year has amounted to 41.9 million U.S. dollars, which is 5.3 times more than in the same period last year.
