Tajikistan and Sri Lanka have signed five cooperation documents.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, five cooperation documents were signed in Colombo on December 13 following negotiations between Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena.
The two sides reportedly signed a joint statement on expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Sri Lanka, a memorandum of understanding on conducting political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries, a government-to-government agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism, a government-to-government agreement on cooperation in the field of sports, and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade of Sri Lanka.
In the course of the negotiations, the presidents discussed issues related to establishment of a joint intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation and a joint business council, the website says.
Emomali Rahmon invited Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena to pay visit to Tajikistan.
Recall, President Rahmon, leading a 12-memebr delegation of high ranking officials arrived in Sri Lanka for a three-day state visit Monday evening.
According to Sri Lanka Internet newspaper ColomboPage, President Rahmon is also scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in Colombo.
He will also visit Kandy and meet Sri Lankan business community during his stay in the country and will leave the country on Wednesday.
Kandy is a major city in Sri Lanka, located in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. Kandy is second only to Colombo as the center of the Sri Lankan economy. It is the second-largest city of the island and the capital of Central Province of Sri Lanka. Many major corporations have large branch offices in Kandy and many industries include textiles, furniture, information technology and jewelry are found there. Many agriculture research centers are located throughout the city.
