As part of his official visit to Russia, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday held talks with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma (Russia’s lower house of parliament), and Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
Rahmon’s meeting with Volodin reportedly focused on the state and prospects of further expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
They, in particular, underlined the significance of the strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Russia, interstate integration within the frameworks of work of the Inter-parliamentary Commission for Cooperation and the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly, noting that the inter-parliamentary cooperation is an important link in the whole complex of many-sided cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia.
Rahmon and Volodin reportedly also exchanged views on ways to expand economic and interregional cooperation between the two countries.
They also discussed a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.
Emomali Rahmon invited Vyacheslav Volodin to visit Tajikistan at any time convenient for him.
Similar issues were discussed at a meeting of Emomali Rahmon with the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
The special attention at the meeting with Medvedev was reportedly given to issues related to economic, educational and cultural cooperation as well as the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.
Rahmon and Medvedev, in particular, exchanged views on the issues of the supply of Tajik agricultural goods to Russia.
Recall, Russia’s Ambassador to Tajikistan, Igor Lyakin-Frolov, told Asia-Plus on April 10 that the documents the two countries will sign during the Tajik president's visit to Moscow will particularly make it possible to improve the supply of Tajik agricultural goods to Russia. “Implementation of a very important and interesting project aimed at launching the wholesale farm produce distribution center in Tajikistan is taking shape,” Ambassador Lyakin-Frolov noted.
