During their visit to Dushanbe, High Representative Borrell and Commissioner Urpilainen also held consultations with high-ranking Tajik state officials to promote closer cooperation and efforts to manage Afghanistan-related challenges, including the humanitarian situation, stability, security, radicalization, terrorism, and illicit drugs trafficking.
Yesterday, Borrell and Urpilainen were received by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
In the course of the talks, Tajik leader noted that expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union will contribute to the progress of the country and the entire the region in the future as well.
During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed issues related to further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and EU in the fields of politics, economics, culture, education, public health and local development.
During the discussion of the legal foundation for further expansion of bilateral cooperation, the parties found it necessary to sign the improved agreement on cooperation and partnership between Tajikistan and the European Union.
On behalf of the government and the people of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to the European Union for support in in overcoming the economic and social consequences of the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and enhancing the health sector.
Tajik leader also appreciated the European Union’s support for global initiatives of Tajikistan regarding water and climate change, says the Tajik president’s official website.
