On Thursday February 22, a meeting and negotiations of the official delegations of Tajikistan and the Republic of Tatarstan took place Tatarstan’s capital, Kazan.  

The Tajik president’s official website says that at the beginning of the meeting, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, expressed his gratitude to the Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, for his warm welcome and praised the level of holding the international mixed tournament, the Games of the Future. 

It was emphasized that the Russian Federation is a strategic partner and ally of Tajikistan and cooperation at the regional level is an important part of the relations between the two countries.

As mentioned, now more than eighty federal subjects of Russia have direct relations with Tajikistan.

During the negotiations, it was reportedly emphasized that Tajikistan is interested in further expansion of economic, trade and investment cooperation with the Republic of Tatarstan.

The parties outlined sectors like industry, energy, construction, agriculture, and pharmaceutics as areas which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and the Republic of Tatarstan.  

Much attention was reportedly paid to the establishment of joint wholesale trade and logistics centers in Tajikistan and Tatarstan.

Further expansion of cooperation in the fields of education, healthcare, labor migration and tourism was also one of the important topics of the talks.

It was proposed to expand cooperation for the training of qualified personnel in accordance with the requirements of the labor market.

During the meeting and negotiations, the parties also exchanged views on a number of other issues being of mutual interest. 

Recall, Head of Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, visited Tajikistan in early March last year as member of Russian delegation led by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

While in Dushanbe, Minnikhanov was received by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister of Tajikistan Qohir Rasoulzoda. 

Tatarstan is a republic of the Russian Federation, located in Eastern Europe.  It is a part of the Volga Federal District; and its capital and largest city is Kazan, an important cultural center in Russia.

Tatarstan is one of the most economically developed regions of Russia. The republic is highly industrialized and ranks second to Samara Oblast in terms of industrial production per square kilometer.
