The National Leader of the people of Turkmenistan, Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, arrived in Dushanbe today morning on an official visit, according to the Dushanbe Mayor telegram-channel.

At the airport Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow was met by Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda.

While in Dushanbe, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow is reportedly scheduled to hold talks with high-ranking Tajik state officials to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in various areas.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow (born 29 June 1957) is a Turkmen politician who is currently the chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan (Halk Maslahaty).

Halk Maslahaty is Turkmenistan's independent “representative body” exerting supreme constitutional authority.  It includes in its membership, but is not considered part of, the legislature.  Among other things, it is empowered to amend the constitution.  Its chairperson is appointed by the president and is designated the "National Leader".  

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow previously served as the 2nd President of Turkmenistan from 2006 to 2022, when he entered into a power-sharing arrangement with his son, Serdar, the current president.

Meanwhile, an official ceremony of opening of Days and a concert of Turkmen artistes took place at the Tajik Opera and Ballet Theater yesterday afternoon.  

Besides, an exhibition of paintings and folk crafts of Turkmenistan opened at the National Museum of Tajikistan in Dushanbe today.     

A joint concert program “Friendship Evening” of Tajik and Turkmen artistes will also take place at the Kokhi Borbad State Complex in Dushanbe today.    

Tomorrow, the event participants will present their cultural program to the audience in Danghara, the hometown of President Emomali Rahmon.
