The President of the Republic of Korea, Yun Seok-yel, replaced the ambassador to Tajikistan. Jeong Song Sik has been appointed the new head of the diplomatic mission.
On August 20, in Seoul, Yun Seok-yel presented credentials to the diplomat, which will be handed over to the President of Tajikistan, Yonhap news agency reported.
Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea were established on April 27, 1992. The Embassy of South Korea in Dushanbe opened in 2008, and the Embassy of Tajikistan in Seoul in 2015.
Until 2022, the Embassy in Dushanbe was headed by the Charge d'affaires of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Tajikistan. In January of the same year, the first ambassador arrived in Tajikistan, Kwon Dong Seok, who will be replaced by the newly appointed diplomat.
The Republic of Korea is implementing projects in Tajikistan in the fields of transport, logistics, energy, industrial modernization, agriculture, climate change, healthcare and others. In particular, the Korean Agency for International Cooperation (KOISA) is financially involved in the development of a feasibility study (feasibility study) for the construction of the Jaloliddini Balkhi-Nizhny Panj railway to the border with Afghanistan, which will improve Tajikistan's transit capabilities.
Since April 2017, a permanent representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan has been working in Seoul.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, the trade turnover between the two countries for 9 months of 2023 amounted to more than $ 96 million.
