IRNA reports that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has described Iran-Tajikistan relations based on deep historical and kinship ties, emphasizing that Tehran is keen on expanding scientific, cultural, economic, and security interactions with Dushanbe.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in New York on September 23 on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79).
During the meeting, Pezeshkian reportedly named the issue of Afghanistan as a common issue between the two countries, highlighting the need for greater cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe to help this country overcome its problems.
For his part, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon hailed Iran's position in unity and solidarity among Islamic countries, saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved significant progress despite oppressive pressures and sanctions.
Tajikistan wants strengthening and deepening relations with Iran in all fields, Rahmon said, adding that his country is ready to continue taking joint practical measures to strengthen the relationships.
Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi yesterday provided a brief summary of his political and diplomatic meetings on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Araghchi, in particular, noted on his social media page on Tuesday that useful meetings were held between Iran's high-ranking political delegations and the presidents of Tajikistan, Turkiye, Finland, and Switzerland, as well as the King of Jordan, the President of the Council of Europe, and the Elder Group.
