On September 24, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, met in New York with the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79).
The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kuwait.
They, in particular, exchanged views on strengthening and expanding bilateral relations in the fields of economy and trade, investment, culture, health, tourism, air communication and security.
In order to improve commercial and economic relations, it was considered necessary to expand cooperation with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and to revitalize the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation.
Extraction of minerals, light and food industry, export of drinking water from Tajikistan and processing of agricultural products were outlined as areas, which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.
The parties reportedly also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the field of education, allocating scholarships for medical, technical and exact sciences for citizens of the two countries.
During the discussion of issues related to ensuring security and stability, the parties emphasized the importance of holding the International Counterterrorism Conference "Kuwaiti Stage of the Dushanbe Process", which will be held soon in Kuwait, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
