On Thursday January 16, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met in Dushanbe with Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Speaker Muhammadtoir Zokirzoda.
IRNA says Pezeshkian underlined during the meeting that Iran has no limits for expanding relations with Tajikistan, and wherever there is a problem, the Islamic Republic will try to solve it.
Referring to the civilizational records and linguistic and cultural commonalities of the two countries, President Pezeshkian reportedly said, "I don't feel alienated when traveling to Tajikistan. We speak the same language and there is a long history of thousands of years of friendship between the two nations."
"I hope that the cooperation documents that were signed between the two countries today will be fully implemented as soon as possible and we will be able to witness the increasing development of cooperation between the two countries," he added.
On the same day, Pezeshkian met with Rustam Emomali, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament).
Iranian government’s official website says Pezeshkian noted during the meeting that laws in Iran and Tajikistan should be updated in order to facilitate investment and trade between the two countries.
“The numerous cultural and historical commonalities between us provide a very suitable ground for closer cooperation between the people of the two countries, and we have come here to remove any obstacles that may hinder the strengthening of friendship and interaction between the two sides,” Pezeshkian said.
He pointed out to the role of parliaments of Iran and Tajikistan in facilitating relations between the two nations, saying: “The laws and regulations of both countries should be updated to facilitate and enhance trade and investment between the two sides.”
For his part, Emomali reportedly said that he has always been keen on engaging in meaningful talks with Iranian officials with the aim of developing mutual ties.
He added that the volume of trade between the two countries is significantly growing, and that a decision to cancel visa issuance will accelerate bilateral cooperation.
Tajikistan is also interested in deepening diplomatic cooperation with Iran, Majlisi Milli speaker was cited as saying.
