Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Dushanbe on May 29, ahead of the first High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation.
The Tajik president’s official website says that during the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and discussed areas of mutual interest.
President Rahmon reportedly expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s active support in advancing Tajikistan’s global initiatives on water and climate issues.
The meeting underscored the steady growth of ties between the two countries, rooted in their shared historical and cultural heritage. Both sides agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation in defense and security amid rising global unrest.
Economic collaboration was a key focus, with particular attention to expanding partnerships in energy, communications, and transportation sectors. The leaders highlighted the strategic importance of the CASA-1000 project, which links Central and South Asia and plays a critical role in regional development.
Tajikistan also expressed interest in enhancing regional connectivity through expanded air, rail, and road links, alongside greater access to Pakistani ports.
To boost economic ties, the two sides agreed to continue the active work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, the Joint Council, and to organize the upcoming Forum of Tajik-Pakistani Entrepreneurs.
The discussions reflect the ongoing commitment of Tajikistan and Pakistan to deepen cooperation and foster regional stability and development.
