Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon yesterday met in Dushanbe with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the Central Asia–Russia Summit and the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council, according to the Tajik president’s official website. The two leaders reportedly focused on enhancing strategic cooperation and advancing mutual interests across key sectors.
At the start of the meeting, Rahmon emphasized that regular high-level contacts provide an opportunity to address pressing issues in Tajik-Uzbek relations and align the countries’ positions on major areas of cooperation.
Both presidents praised the steady progress in bilateral ties and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the strategic partnership and alliance between their nations.
A key focus of the talks was the continued expansion of trade and economic cooperation, which remains a cornerstone of the bilateral agenda. The leaders welcomed the success of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, whose most recent session was held in Khiva, Uzbekistan.
They also expressed readiness to broaden collaboration in energy, industry, and the implementation of innovative, including green, technologies.
The positive momentum in interregional ties and growing cooperation between regions of both countries were highlighted as a sign of deepening integration.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation was another important topic, with both sides expressing interest in continuing scientific and cultural exchanges.
Concluding the talks, Rahmon and Mirziyoyev praised the effective cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan within the framework of the United Nations and other regional and international organizations. They voiced confidence that their joint efforts would benefit the peoples of the two brotherly nations.
