The Government of Tajikistan has approved the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Iran, which aims to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
According to a government decree dated September 27, 2025, minor adjustments to the document may be made as needed. The date and location of the signing of the MoU will be coordinated between the foreign ministries of both countries in the usual manner.
Government decree on the draft memorandum of understanding
In accordance with Article 7 of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On International Treaties of the Republic of Tajikistan," the Government of Tajikistan has resolved:
1. To approve the draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the cancellation of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
2. To authorize the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan to sign this Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the Government of Tajikistan, and, if necessary, make non-substantial amendments to the document.
3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan is tasked with coordinating with the Iranian side the date and location of the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding.

Visa-free travel deal between Tajikistan and Iran
As it had been reported earlier, a deal allowing Tajik and Iranian citizens to travel between the two nations without visas for up to 90 days per year -- with the first visit limited to 30 days – took effect on August 10, 2024.
In the first stage of the program, only those traveling by plane between Dushanbe and Tehran were eligible for visa-free entrances.
The MoU between the Government of Tajikistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on cancellation of visa requirements for holders of passports for international travels for citizens of Tajikistan and Iran was signed in Dushanbe on November 8, 2023 during Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi’s official visit to Dushanbe.
In December 2023, the Cabinet of Iran decided to unilaterally cancel visa requirements for visitors from 33 more countries, including Tajikistan.
The Government of Tajikistan issued a decree to approve the MoU on cancellation of visa requirements for holders of passports for international travels on January 3, 2024.
