Dushanbe has been officially named the Cultural Capital of Asia for 2026 by the Asian Mayors Forum (AMF), following a three-day summit held in Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the “Golden Brick” festival, as reported by Tasnim News Agency and the AMF’s official website.

At the event, Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani revealed the three symbolic titles for 2026: Dushanbe will serve as Asia’s Cultural Capital, Baghdad was named the Tourism Capital, and Dubai received the title of Environmental Capital.

Dushanbe strengthens its role in urban diplomacy

At the 11th Executive Council meeting of the AMF, Tajikistan’s capital further solidified its position on the international urban diplomacy stage.

Dushanbe, currently serving as the presiding city of the Forum, opened the session, with a message from Mayor Rustam Emomali delivered to participants.

Following a vote, Dushanbe was once again elected as Vice President City of the AMF, underscoring its growing political influence and active engagement in regional cooperation.

The Dushanbe delegation also presented cultural and economic initiatives during thematic panels, sharing experiences in urban planning, cultural policy, and the development of creative industries. The city’s participation contributed to its increasing presence in global discussions on urban development and innovation.
