On December 12, during its 80th session, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously approved the resolution titled "International Year of Legal Literacy, 2027," initiated by Tajikistan.

According to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the proposal was presented by President Emomali Rahmon, who emphasized the importance of legal literacy as the foundation for justice and effective governance. The resolution recognizes legal literacy as a key element in the protection and promotion of human rights, access to justice, and the participation of citizens in public life and governance.

The resolution also strengthens international cooperation in legal education and highlights Tajikistan's constructive role in advancing global legal education. Tajikistan, which declared 2024 as the National Year of Legal Literacy, has set a strong example with its successful national initiative that has raised awareness on legal issues, as noted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The International Year of Legal Literacy is expected to serve as a platform to promote global initiatives in legal education, including the integration of legal subjects into school curricula and vocational training, as well as improving access to legal information, especially for women, children, and vulnerable groups.
