DUSHANBE, May 8, Asia-Plus - On September 7, President Emomali Rahmon met in Doha with Muhammad bin Mubarak al-Khulayfi, Speaker of Qatari Parliament.
Presidential press service said that their talks had focused on establishment and expansion of inter-parliamentary between the two countries. Rahmon underlined an important role of parliaments both in bilateral and regional relations.
For his part, Muhammad bin Mubarak al-Khulayfi noted that political leadership of Qatar is interested in expansion of economic cooperation with Tajikistan.
The same day, Emomali Rahmon met with Qatari Finance Minister also acting Economy and Trade Minister Yusuf Hussein Kemal.
In the course of the talks the two discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Qatar in the economic and banking spheres. During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on ways to expand trade cooperation between the two countries. Both sides vowed to boost bilateral trade.
Rahmon briefed Qatari minister on economic and infrastructure development programs of Tajikistan and outlined energy, processing of farm produce, and mining as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Qatar, presidential press service said.
Qatari minister, for his part, noted that he will take efforts to attract attention of Qatari investors to cooperation with Tajikistan. He said that by instructions of Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani Qatari ministers should study opportunities of many-sided economic and investment cooperation with Tajikistan and submit their proposals on this subject, presidential press service said. A Qatari delegation is expected to arrive in Tajikistan for this purpose soon.
