DUSHANBE, February 13, Asia-Plus -- President Emomali Rahmon today received visiting Deputy Foreign Minister of Egypt Samir Abd al-Aziz Abdullah Khalil.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with President Rahmon, Egyptian official noted that they had discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Egypt. He, in particular, noted that Tajik president’s visit to Egypt in February 2007 had given a new impulse to development of relations between the two countries.
According to him, seven cooperation documents were signed during President Rahmon’s visit to Egypt and “all these agreements are currently being successfully implemented.”
“During the meeting, we also discussed activity of the Tajik-Egyptian intergovernmental commission for trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation and President Rahmon appointed Economic and Development Minister Ghulomjon Bobozoda as Tajik co-chairman of the commission,” the deputy minister said, noting that co-chairman of the commission fro the Egyptian side had also been appointed.
According to him, they also discussed a program of technical cooperation between Tajikistan and Egypt.
Asked about priorities of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the Egyptian official noted that a group of Egyptian entrepreneurs are accompanying him on his visit to Tajikistan and they are studying opportunities and prospects of cooperation, including investment in Tajikistan’s economy. He noted that President Rahmon had charged relevant Tajik bodies to intensify this work.
