DUSHANBE, August 19, 2008, Asia-Plus -- On Tuesday August 19, President Emomali Rahmon sent a telegram of congratulations to his Afghan counterpart, President Hamid Karzai, on occasion of Afghanistan’s Independence Day, presidential press service said.
In his message, Rahmon, in particular, noted that Tajikistan attaches significant importance to expansion of bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan. He expressed confidence that cooperation between the two countries will expand in the future as well.
Afghan Independence Day is celebrated in Afghanistan on August 19 to commemorate the Treaty of Rawalpindi in 1919. The treaty granted independence from Britain.
