DUSHANBE, September 26, 2008, Asia-Plus -- On Wednesday September 24, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), received Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Ali-Asghar Sherdoust.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the upper house speaker, said that in the course of the talks, the two exchanged views on state and further prospects of expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran in the different fields.
During the meeting it was noted that a two-way trade between the two countries tripled in the year to July 1, 2008 and Iran’s investments in development of Tajikistan’s economy have been increasing, the aid said.
The sides noted that active parliamentary ties could promote further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.
Tajik speaker, in particular, noted that Iranian companies could promote development of tourism and relevant industries in Tajikistan. Ubaidulloyev noted that proper legal foundation had been laid for that and said that Tajikistan is currently considering privileges for development of private sector in accordance with international standards.
For his part, Mr. Sherdoust offered the Majlisi Milli head to pay an official visit to Iran once again, Saidov said.
