DUSHANBE, February 6, Asia-Plus  -- During yesterday’s meeting with President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, Iran’s Minister of Commerce Masoud Mirkazemi handed over an official invitation of Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejat to Tajik leader to participate at a meeting of heads of member nations of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) that will be held in Tehran next month, according to presidential press service.

Iranian minister informed the Tajik head of state that Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar and Radio and TV Chairman Izatulla Zargami would visit Tajikistan in the near future.

During the meeting, it was noted that Tajikistan and Iran had singed more than 70 various cooperation documents.

Rahmon and Mirkazemi expressed satisfaction with the level of interaction between the two countries in implementing a number of joint projects in Tajikistan, including construction of the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant, tunnels Istiqlol and Chormaghzak, as well as the Dushanbe-based joint venture for assembling tractors.

The sides were also interested in bilateral cooperation in establishing free economic zones (FEZs) in Tajikistan and underlined the importance of expansion of tripartite economic and trade cooperation between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran, the press service said.
