DUSHANBE, February 13, 2009, Asia-Plus -- On Thursday February 12, Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov held a meeting to discuss issues related to construction of small hydropower plants in the country, according to presidential pres service.
The meeting members included senior representatives of relevant ministries and organizations as well as heads of a number of districts. They reported on the progress of implementation of president’s instruction to speed up construction of small power plants.
We will recall that the president instructed to take measures to attract foreign and domestic investments in order to build some 50 small power plants in the country this year.
According to Barqi Tojik power holding, 150 small hydropower plants have been built in Tajikistan over the past seventeen years. In 2008, Tajik small hydropower plants generated totaling 39.7 kWh of electrical power.
