DUSHANBE, April 18, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Dushanbe marks a Capital City Day today. The Tajik capital city holiday is traditionally marked on the third Saturday of April.
According to Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, by Dushanbe authorities’ decision celebration of a Capital City Day is starting this year by subbotinik (volunteer work) and city-wide action on cleaning the Dushanbinka River bank areas of debris.
A number of other activities have also been organized to mark the holiday. Thus, the award ceremonies for the winners of the competitions “The Best Mahalla,” “School of Year -2008,” “Teacher of Year-2008,” “Kindergarten of Year-2008,” and others will be held today.
Besides, a number of new facilities will be officially opened in Dushanbe today, the spokesman said, noting that festive events will be held in different area of the city.
