DUSHANBE, May 18, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Members of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) have seconded the law on amendments to the law on the RT law “On the Status of the Capital City”, which bans keeping livestock in Dushanbe.

The 19th session of the Majlisi Milli member of the third convocation, presided over by its head, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, was held on May 18.

Presenting the law on amendments to the law on the RT law “On the Status of the Capital City,” the Majlisi Milli member Mahkam Mahmoudov noted that the law bans keeping cattle, sheep and goats and poultry in the capital city.  According to him, the law is aimed at ensuring observance of sanitary norms and rules in the capital city.

In the future, special livestock trading places will be organized on the outskirts of the city, the parliamentarian added.

Speaking on this subject, the Majlisi Milli speaker, who is also mayor of Dushanbe, noted that the capital city was not place for keeping livestock.  “Over the past several years, the number of livestock in the city has increased the number of livestock in some agrarian districts of the country,” Ubaidulloyev said.
