DUSHANBE, June 1, 2009, Asia-Plus -- On Sunday May 31, President Emomali Rahmon held talks with visiting Belgian Prime Minister, Herman Van Rompuy, according to presidential press service.
Bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Belgium were a major topic of the talks o Tajik leader and Belgian PM. Their talks were followed by negotiations with participation of the delegation of the two countries.
A special focus in the talks was given to implementation of agreements that were reached during President Rahmon’s visit to the Kingdom of Belgium in February this year.
The sides also discussed bilateral cooperation within the framework of cooperation of Tajikistan with the European Union and the countries’ support for establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan. They, in particular, noted that to establish peace and stability in Afghanistan it was necessary to use potentials of its neighbors, including Tajikistan.
The sides also pointed out the necessity of removing artificial barriers in relations between Central Asia’s states that impeded free movement of people, commodities and services as well as exchange of information, the press service said.
