DUSHANBE, August 5, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- On Tuesday August 4, President Emomali Rahmon received visiting Afghan delegation, led by Minister for Mines Mohammad Adil Ibrahim, according to presidential press service.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Tajik president, Muhammad Adil Ibrahim noted that Afghanistan and Tajikistan have a good potential for cooperation in different fields.

According to him, they discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.  “Implementation of agreements signed between our countries as well as agreements reached during trilateral and quadrilateral meetings, involving the presidents of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia and Tajikistan, which where held in Dushanbe last week, were also among major topics of the talks,” Afghan minister said.

On the ongoing Afghan economic exhibition that was opened in Dushanbe yesterday, Mr. Ibrahim said that it was the first exhibition of that kind held in the Central Asian region.  “It is our first step and we hope that such events will be held in the future regularly,” said he, “We would want such exhibitions to be held in Tajikistan and Afghanistan several times a year.”

Afghan minister added that during the meeting with President Rahmon they had also agreed to speed up work on construction of the hydroelectric power plant, power transmission line, as well as highways and rail link connecting the two countries.
