DUSHANBE, September 10, Asia-Plus -- In connection with proclaiming Dushanbe the Capital of Islamic Culture for Asian Region in 2010, Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev on September 9 endorsed the plan of actions dedicated to this event, the press service of the Dushanbe mayor’s office said.
In accordance with the plan, Dushanbe will host a scientific-practical conference formally titled “The Tajiks and Islamic Culture,” a republican conference dedicated to the 1200th anniversary of Imam Abdullah ibn Ismalil al-Bukhari (Al-Bukhari), a seminar entitled “Role of Woman in Islam” and a series of other events, including Quran recitation competition.
It is also planned to publish a booklet “Dushanbe Is Center of Islamic Civilization” in Tajik, Arab, English, and Russian languages, the press service said.
The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization adopted the resolution of proclaiming the Tajik capital Dushanbe the Capital of Islamic Culture for Asian Region in 2010 in August, 2009.
Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) was established by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in May 1979. ISESCO is one of the largest international Islamic organizations and specializes in the fields in education, science, and culture. Its headquarters are in Rabat, Morocco.
According to the ISESCO website, its objectives include strengthening and promoting and consolidating cooperation among Member States (OIC) in the fields of education, science, culture and communication, developing applied sciences and use of advanced technology within the framework of Islamic values and ideals, consolidating understanding among Muslim peoples, and contributing to the achievement of world peace and security, particularly through education, science, culture and communication.
