DUSHANBE, October 5, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- President Emomali Rahmon yesterday attended an official opening of a main mosque in the village of Tuda, Hissar district, according to presidential press service.

At present it is Tajikistan’s largest mosque that may accommodate some 10,000 people for praying.  Library, museum and computer training center have been set up at the mosque.

The mosque, construction of which began four years ago, was built due to donations from local people and entrepreneurs, the press service said.

Addressing the inaugurating ceremony, President Rahmon congratulated those present on the 1310th birth anniversary of Imam Azam and called on Muslim clerics to preach ideas of kind calling Muslims for brotherhood and unity but not for extremism and separatism.

Tajik leader also called on people to actively participate in construction of schools, hospitals, roads and bridges.  He proposed to name the new mosque after Imam Azam.
