DUSHANBE, October 7, 2009, Asia-Plus -- On Tuesday October 6, President Emomali Rahmon signed a number of laws adopted and seconded by both houses of the parliament last week, according to presidential press service.
The president, in particular, singed the laws on the state language of Tajikistan as well as on amendments to the laws on employee retirement income security, state symbols of Tajikistan, and licensing certain types of activities as well as to the administrative code.
The new language legislation creates a legal space for protection and development of the Tajik language. The law obligates all citizens of the country to study the state language and simultaneously it guarantees development of languages of other peoples of Tajikistan. It regulates use of the state language and other languages by legal entities irrespective of forms of their property.
We will recall that that the new language legislation was adopted by the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) on October 1, 2009 and seconded by the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) on October 3, 2009.
