DUSHANBE, April 23, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received chiefs of border services of the CIS member nations who arrived in Dushanbe for the 63rd session of the Council of CIS Border Troops Commanders, according to presidential press service.

The meeting focused on issues related to further expansion of cooperation between the border services of the CIS member nations to ensure proper control of the Commonwealth’s external borders and prevent terrorist and extremist actions as well as illicit drug trafficking.

The Tajik head of state noted that not only countries bordering on Afghanistan but the entire international community should take joint measures to address the drug threat emanating from Afghanistan.

Emomali Rahmon supported an initiative to involve border service and other appropriate agencies of Afghanistan in fight against those threats and added that relevant agencies of Tajikistan and Afghanistan have actively cooperated in that direction for along time.
