DUSHANBE. June 10. “Asia-Plus” -- Yesterday, June 9, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon met with the visiting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who arrived in Dushanbe to take part in the work of the international conference “Water for life”.
According to Tajikistan President’s press service, the sides have also discussed the issues of strategic partnership on a wide range of bilateral issues.
Special attention was given to implementation of projects on linkage of roads, rail and electric power networks of the two countries through the territory of Afghanistan.
“Tajik President thanked his Iranian counterpart for Iran’s assistance provided for the construction of Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant and a series of other projects in economic sector, trade and education and expressed his hope that trilateral cooperation between Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan the roads of three countries will be linked with the roads of South Asia and Tajikistan will get access to warm seas,” the source said.
“Iranian president said Iran is ready to and interested in further development of relations with Tajikistan in such spheres as economy, trade, energy, industry, agriculture, education, health care, science and culture, water and energy cooperation and regional security,” the source reported.
The sides have also discussed the agenda of a regular meeting of heads of Tajikistan, Iran and Afghanistan, issues of regional security, including counter-narcotic cooperation.
