DUSHANBE, October 19, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), is receiving visiting Iranian parliamentary delegation, led by MP Hussein Hashimiyan, today.
Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the sides are expected to discuss cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and further activities of the parliament friendship group. They will also touch upon a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest.
During their stay in Tajikistan, Iranian MPs will also familiarize themselves with work of their Tajik colleagues, meet with members of the lower house of Tajik parliament and visit the Majlisi Namoyandagon committees and commissions, Sultonov said.
Majlis-e Shoura-ye Eslami (the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran) is the national legislative body of Iran. Majlis-e Shoura-ye Eslami currently has 290 representatives, changed from the previous 270 seats since the February 18 2000 election. The current speaker of Iranian parliament is Ali Larijanii.
